     The book Annual Report on Development of Henan (2016) was finished. Today, the book launch organized by Information Office of the People’s Government of Henan Province and Henan Academy of Social Sciences is going to be held here. I have great honor to welcome the distinguished guests and social media. And I wish to express my heartfelt gratitude to all the leaders from Social Sciences Academic Press (CHINA), Foreign and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the People’s Government of Henan Province, Henan Provincial Commerce Department, Henan University of Technology, Henan University of Economics and Law, Luoyang Institute of Science and Technology, as well as Australia Ocean Media Group. Now, I would like to make a brief introduction about the compilation and publishing situation of Annual Report on Development of Henan (2016).

    As the second largest economy in the world and a developing country which has made the greatest contribution to global economic development in recent years, China has created series of miracles affecting the world development by taking advantage of its traditional culture of tolerance and centralized power system, thus being a historical force that affecting the new round of globalization. From 2013 onwards, China has put forward and implemented “the Belt and Road Initiative” which refers to solve problems of China’s integrating into globalization in the process of its peaceful rise. Countries and people all over the world need to understand China in an objective, real and vibrant way during such process. The Books published by the Social Sciences Academic Press of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences are a kind of think-tank report, they have distinctive discourse characteristics and been widely concerned by the international community. They have played an increasingly important role in government decision-making, think-tank building, ideological exchange, social marking, media transformation, guidance of the public opinion, and transmission of the Chinese discourse. The Books are a kind of important literature for the world to know the economic and social development of various sectors and regions in China; they are the vital support of the new think-tank construction with Chinese characteristics and the important publishing platform for think-tank researches; they are the significant window for the world to understand China, familiar with China, and communicate deeply with China.

    As the world's largest population province with more than 100 million people, Henan has made great progress in its opening-up affairs in recent years. From 2011 to 2015, the annual growth rate of total export-import volume of Henan is 32.9%, becoming one of the most active provinces in open economy development under the new normal of Chinese economy. And the traditional hinterland is becoming the forefront of reform and opening-up. Henan has entered into the new era of development of mutual openness, it owned numbers of global enterprises while constantly introduced the world’s top 500 companies. In this historical situation, it is an objective need to encourage the world know better about Henan, understand it and take further cooperation with it. In order to implement the strategic plan of building Henan be the inland openness center, expand the international influence of Henan in its opening-up intercourse, and exhibit the open, developing and profound aspects of Henan to the world, Henan Academy of Social Sciences organized professors in relevant areas writing the book of Annual Report on Development of Henan (2016), and it was republished by Social Sciences Academic Press. This book mainly consist of 10 special reports about Henan, including the fields of economic development, industrial development, urban development, social development, cultural development, development of rule of law, agricultural and rural development, financial development, tourism development and airport economic development. The book has analyzed the development trend and hotspot issues of the fields above happened in 2015 and 2016 with more than 200 thousand words, which presenting a full and accurate literature for the foreign business and academia know well about the current development situation of Henan.

    This book has three characteristics: Firstly, with novelty, it has reflected the latest development condition of Henan. Based on the regional development theory, the book analyzed the development of airport economy of Zhengzhou Airport Economy Zone which was especially concerned by the world. And it proposed that maybe regional development hotspot will come back to the inland under the influence of air transport. Secondly, with scientificalness, it has systematically analyzed the inherent reason why the GDP growth rate can be steady up to 8 percent in Henan with 100 million population when the global economy development faced with serious difficulties. This kind of experience is precious, and it is of great significance to the relevant countries and regions. Thirdly, with systematicness, it has analyzed the important fields of economy, social and culture etc., which can reflect a comprehensive development overview of Henan. Through this book, the English-speaking countries will realize that Henan is a great place with real and sustainable development, with energy and vitality, with an important contribution to Chinese history, with openness, inclusiveness and responsibility. This is the origin point of this book and is the earnest desire of us.

   In recent years, Henan’s Book research has made great progress with the care and help from Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and Social Sciences Academic Press. A dozen or more Blue Book were published in Henan each year, which has provided an effective reference for the government, provided intelligence services for the community, and provided continuous scientific literatures for experts and scholars at home and abroad to understand Henan. The book Henan Development Report 2016 (English Edition) is the first English Blue Book compiled and published by Henan Academy of Social Sciences. And it is the first English academic writing be born in Henan that comprehensively and systematically introduced its latest developments in the fields of economy, society, culture and so forth. Here, I would like to express my gratitude to Luoyang Institute of Science and Technology and relevant experts, they have given strong support in the process of translation.

    The publishment of Annual Report on Development of Henan (2016) is another important measure to speed up the opening-up space of Henan, it has gained lots of concern and support from the provincial government and the community.
